#DiaryOfCriticalThinking #1 - Critical Thinking

Let us ask AI: What is #CriticalThinking?

"Critical thinking is the disciplined process of analyzing, evaluating, and applying information logically to form well-reasoned judgments."

In Physics, we often talk about how short equations are always the most complex ones such as Schrödinger's equation; very short, but tremendous impact. The defintion of critical thinking does seem quite simple, too, yet hides similar complexity (certainly less far-reaching than Schrödinger 😉 ). Let us dive into that:

#Discipline: No shortcuts here..

#Information: This is somewhat of a chicken-and-egg problem. How do we retrieve information on a topic without critically thinking about its relevance/truthfulness? How can we trust a source? In daily life, we hardly can rely on scientifc methods as done in academic research, yet we require ways of filtering the available data (which we have tons of, not only with social media). This may heavily be influenced by our personal experiences, our culture, and personal traits. I guess having proper exchanges with peers can be a good start.. Yeah, not really solving that one today.

#Logically: We delay that one to another diary entry (potential teaser for #2 here)

#Judgements: This is quite an important point here. Critical Thinking is not particullarly meant to be right or wrong, to create a certain belief, or to win an argument (shoutout #ArthurSchopenhauer). Yet, we want to make an educated judgement on a certain topic. This is neither to be a show-off nor to seem indecisive but rather create a basis for e.g. a subsequent decision.

As always, this is just my humble view on this. Eiger to hear to your thoughts. #incentive

Over and out. #KeepThinking
